Debbie and George Sayegh came from Brooklyn, where they ran restaurants including a Cuban coffee shop that used the same Cuban sandwich recipe Bodega serves today. George trained partly in Miami and fell for Latin food; the couple say they built Bodega for themselves because they were hungry for something different. It is a walk-up window with all outdoor seating and a juice bar next door, and the Cuban sandwich and lechon platter are the dishes the venue ties its name to. The same couple opened Baba in Grand Central in 2019 and closed it on 3 July 2026.
Over 50 St. Pete: EDGE District
Central Avenue from about 9th Street to 16th Street, next to the stadium. The city's oldest brewery pours here, Ferg's fills nearly two blocks across from the ballpark, and Bodega on Central is here too.
A vinyl listening bar that opened on April 17, 2026. Owner Matt Kaye built the 1,600 square foot room around a Klipsch Heritage speaker system and McIntosh amplifiers, tuned so people can still talk. Local DJ Casper curates the records with guest DJs, and beverage director Chris Trull wrote a list of 15 to 18 cocktails plus zero-proof drinks.
Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.
A small burger sports bar with a hockey theme on the corner of 1st Ave N and 9th St, open since September 2012. Owner Jason Esposito is the son of Tony Esposito and nephew of Phil Esposito, both Hockey Hall of Famers and founders of the Tampa Bay Lightning. The bar does not take reservations.
Open since 1992 across the street from Tropicana Field, Ferg's has grown to nearly two city blocks and eleven separate bars and rooms, including Ferg's Dog Park & Grill, a clubhouse with a DJ booth and the St. Pete Axe & Ale axe-throwing room. USA Today readers named it the best sports bar in America in 2025, and it won Best Sports Bar at the 2026 Visit St. Pete-Clearwater Besties. Food trucks such as Vinnie's Pies and Maxi Empanadas park inside, and you can order from your phone.
Open late. Go earlier if you want a calmer room.
A counter-style pasta bar opened in 2026 by two Italians, Alessandro and Giangiacomo, who write that they 'grew up with flour on our hands'. Pasta is made fresh daily and served in bowls ... ragu, carbonara, cacio e pepe, pesto. The site's banner reads 'Ciao St. Pete ... Fusillo is now open'.
A small German counter on the 900 block serving sausages, schnitzel, spaetzle and dumplings, with vegan dishes on the menu. The site publishes no origin story or owner name.
St. Pete's oldest brewery marked its 13th anniversary in September 2026. The beer garden and tasting room on Baum Avenue stay family friendly, while Webb's City Cellar, its second room, pours sours, cider, mead and wine for adults only. On September 25, 2026 it opened Upstairs at Webb's, an adults-only second-floor bar with Japanese-style side-pull pours and English cask ale. I Love the Burg says honey for the mead comes from bees kept on the roof.
Coffee by day and cocktails by night, modeled on the European and American cafes of the 1950s and 60s where creative people gathered. It began as a three-month pop-up in the EDGE District and stayed. The room goes technology-free after 5pm, and happy hour runs daily from 5 to 7.
The Matchin family opened Plant Love here in spring 2019. Mama Jo develops the recipes and her son Jordan handles expansion. The shop makes its dairy-free ice cream in house, more than 50 rotating flavors, and the own site now says it has added Hershey's dairy ice cream in 12 flavors at both shops. That means the counter that was fully vegan is no longer fully vegan.
Chef Ronicca Whaley started Shiso Crispy as a food truck in Pinellas Park, hand-folding gyoza. The site says Tampa Bay Times readers voted it 'Best of the Best' in 2020 and 2021 and that she has appeared six times on Guy's Grocery Games. The Central Ave room is the original storefront and what the group calls its flagship; there is now a second St. Pete kitchen on the Jannus Block and one in downtown Tampa.
I Love the Burg calls it one of the few dive bars left in town ... cash only, smoking allowed inside and loud on game days.
The self-described classy dive bar opened in 2012 and has been putting on free shows by local and touring bands ever since. I Love the Burg describes the room as tight in the best way, with the crowd spilling onto the sidewalk and into the parking lot on show nights.
This is a music venue. It is loud when a show is on.
Ariana Duksa started baking sourdough as a cottage bakery in her Seminole home, and she and Ryan Duksa opened the storefront in 2023. It sells naturally fermented loaves, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, soups and wraps. In September 2026 the owners announced a move to the 1926 Union Trust bank building at 895 Central Avenue, 11,000 square feet over three levels, expected in early 2027.
